Killington Event Update

23 Jan by Abby Parker

Hi everyone,

I want to take a moment to acknowledge what many of you are likely thinking as we head into Sunday: the forecast is cold, and it is completely reasonable to have questions or concerns about health and safety in those conditions.

We are watching the weather closely and planning accordingly. Based on the current forecast, we are expecting very cold temperatures on Sunday, with snow most likely developing later in the day. At this time, conditions during check-in, practice, and the start of competition are expected to be mostly dry, with the chance for light snow increasing into the early to mid-afternoon.

While cold and snow are part of winter sports, our priority is making sure athletes and staff have the ability to stay warm and safe throughout the event.

To support that, here is what we will have in place at the top of the course:

- A large tent with a portable propane space heater for athletes and staff to warm up between runs
- An abundant supply of hand and foot warmers available throughout the day
- A carafe of hot chocolate, which we will continue refilling as needed
- Wearable sleeping bags and insulated chairs for staff who are stationed outside for long periods

In addition, we will be running a tight, efficient schedule so athletes are not waiting outside longer than necessary. Our goal is that the only time athletes feel truly cold is during their run or while riding the chairlift, not while standing around.

As always, participation is a family decision, and we completely understand if you determine that the conditions are not right for your athlete.

Per USASA policy, we are unable to issue refunds this close to the event. That said, if you decide not to attend due to the weather, I am happy to transfer your athlete’s registration to another slopestyle later this season, pending availability. Please reach out directly if you would like to explore that option.

We will continue to monitor the forecast closely and will communicate any meaningful changes as we get closer to Sunday.

Thank you for being such a supportive community, and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Best,
Abby
